Jeffrey Daniel Montalvo received a heart transplant on November 3, 2012. The surgery went great and he continues to recover on schedule. But the work continues!
He was diagnosed with non-compaction cardiomyopathy in July of 2011 at the age of 19. Jeffrey spent over a month in Hartford Hospital where he eventually had surgery to implant a ventricular assist device (V.A.D.) which helps his heart pump blood through his body. Shortly after being released in mid-August of 2011 he returned to Hartford Hospital to have an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (I.C.D.) implanted in his chest just below the skin to counter arrhythmias. Following this Jeffrey returned home to wait for his new heart. In July of 2012 he had some set-backs and had to return to Hartford Hospital where he remains eagerly waiting for his new heart.
Jeffrey is a Meriden, Connecticut native and graduated from Maloney High School in 2009. He was attending Middlesex Community College, majoring in Broadcast Cinema when he was diagnosed. Jeffrey is a charming, respectful, hard working and funny young man. He is a sneaker aficionado, a die-hard Red Sox, Cowboys and Knicks fan and enjoys photography.
We would like to extend our appreciation and prayers to all of the wonderful, kind and generous people who have already given to Jeffrey's Heart. If you are new to Jeffrey’s Heart please feel free to take a look around, *give and/or become an organ donor.
